Ilkley Grammar School

In Summer 2010 Ellison Energy replaced Ilkley Grammar School’s ageing coal-fired plant with a new high-efficiency condensing boiler system. Previously the local school were struggling with an expensive and impractical coal-powered heating system; they were receiving coal deliveries twice monthly. Ellison Energy was able to provide them with a far cheaper and more efficient system for their heating, built specially for client.

Gas Service

This involved the management of a new metered gas connection. It consists of approximately 95m of MDPE underground gas service that runs from the meter house to the boiler house and a 6” welded steel entry to the boiler house. It was tested and certified to IGE UP 1.

Gas Safety System

As the client is a school, safety is paramount. Ellison included a controller in the system that monitors natural gas levels above the boilers. In the event of a gas escape, the system will cut power to the solenoid valve, thereby isolating the gas leak. In addition, there is an E-Stop button for manual isolation.

New Boiler System

The system consists of two iMax Xtra F560 fully condensing boilers. Each boiler has its own shunt pump, flow & return isolation valves and gas isolation valve. There is also a new flue header system to terminate vertically through the boiler house roof.

Controls

Ellison implemented a weather compensating control system that provides time, temperature and sequence control over heating and hot water generation.
